Well, it's been a while, and now I'm in Las Vegas. The move went pretty smoothly and I'm having a great time out here. Still waiting on my couch to be delivered, but I picked up some nice things for the place and it's really starting to shape up around here. The weather is great out here, and I'm starting to settle into a routine.

I clearly didn't play a ton of poker this month but I had great results despite that. I'm going to look into a new laptop, and I found a sick 24" sceptre monitor with better specs than my 30" dell which I might get for $360! Crazy sick price, and would go well with the new lappy. It's 1080p res, 2ms response time! (my dell is 12ms) and it has 4000:1 contrast ration which is ridiculous.

Next month I really want to play as many hands as possible, now that I'm almost completely settled in it should be much easier to get the hands in.

Took a few weeks longer than I had expected, but I got it done. Pretty big day for me. I will keep updating the blog periodically, but I doubt I'll give daily updates for a little while. If anyone has ideas for another goal let me know. I may start one up again in a few weeks

So I guess it's pretty cool that I have kept up with the blog for this long. And while I still haven't reached my goal after 100 posts, I'm well on my way to it.

I put in a relatively short session yesterday, but a good one anyway. I've almost completely recovered from my worst session since the blog started. It's clear I won't get 60k hands played this month, and I guess I'm not too upset. 40k hands is still in reach and will be good enough. As far as september goes, 40k hands will be my goal for that month as well. Between the move, and setting up the new place, that might prove to be my toughest hand goal for one month yet.

So after realizing how high 5bb/100 was compared to an average winrate, I'm much less disappointed with my results this month. Also, I realize just how easily my winrate jumps around even after 40k hands in a month. For example, if I ended the month with a 600$ win my bb/100 could jump as much as .8. Here are the results.

So I recently realized I forgot to recap week 19 but thats OK cause nothing really happened that week anyway. I only played like 2500 hands that week as I was in Las Vegas. I'll just skip it.

I've snooped around some other blogs and realized just how hard going 5bb/100 over a 50-60k hands sample is. I've also seen several 50-60k stretches of break even play as well from some of the most winning players at 1-2. While I hope to be slightly more consistent that that, I will definitely keep that in mind in the coming months.

I didn't realize how many real honest questions I had about the session till right now. I kept the beat posting to a min tho!

I also looked up one of the regulars on Fulltilt at 2+2 and saw how ridiculous his stats were. He says he's had 4 losing days in about 4 months sporting a 10bb/100 win rate. He plays a 28/19 which is pretty sick at a full ring table. He is a very tough opponent and I can attest to his stats that he posted. Although I don't feel like I can adopt his style, I definitely took some pointers from a recent "well" post (where everyone gets to ask any question and he answers.) It's good to see people able to beat a game for more than 2-3bb/100. Maybe there is still hope that I can keep up a 5bb/100 win rate.

It was also funny seeing people with a 4k bankroll at the 200 max forums. Not that I think 20 buy ins is too little, but I just realized how over rolled I am for this limit. 125 Buy ins a ton. I just hope I can rock here for maybe another 150k hands and with a good win rate, start moving up to the 400max with 100 buy ins.

I haven't had a session like this in a while. It got pretty frustrating and I was pretty down when it was over but I noticed my recovery time was much better. I usually would take several hours if not all day to cool off after a session like this. Also, i'd never be able to go to sleep. It came at the worst possible time too.

Same story different day. I only played a little over 2 hours cause my brother came over to help with computer issues. We worked on this thing for like 3 hours. I'm determined to get this monitor running perfectly so I'm ordering a new board and video card. O yeah, 4 gigs of ram too.... fucking full tilt. After this mess, I can convert my PT database to postgreSQL and get poker ace hud running too. No way my system can handle 9 tables, with PT importing, and pokeracehud going. Right now there is a little lag as it is. Apparently putting info out on a screen as big as mine is really hard on the system.

O also, my new video card should let me expand to another 30" monitor. I really want 2 of these things cause they are so pretty. I also like my 9 tables to be really big, and I can fit about 9 real big ones on the 30". The other will be for browsin' and stuff. I cant wait till I have bags of money and I got my 60 inches of display up. I'm gunna need a bigger desk.....

Damn Monitor

So I've been a lot busier than anticipated the last couple of days. I got my new monitor, which I'm using now, but its flickering colors on certain backgrounds. We've decided this is a hardware problem, but not a monitor problem. It should be fixed monday.

So I played about 4 hours total in the last 2 days and the hand total is slightly high for that. I 8 tabled for the first time last night and It was good. I was able to focus more easily because my attention was kept on the game. There is still considerable downtime when playing 6 tables and I usually wander to instant messages and TV. I will admit however, that starting up tables is a nightmare. There is no auto post blind on full tilt, and is by far the most annoying thing on the planet. Also, their re sizable tables are a joke. They only go by square sizes, so I can't utilize my entire 30" monitor. I still had big enough tables, but just not exactly the way I wanted them.

So after getting used to the monitor and table situation I played ok. There were a lot of nuts out last night which was good, but I lost a $600 pot to a 2 outer and I decided it was time for bed. I was tired, and my throat hurt, so I didn't want to press it. I'm going to be out all day pretty much, so I'll have to get going with this month tomorrow.

By the way, my goal for June is 40,000 hands. 4 hours a day, 22 days this month, 8 tabling at 450 hands an hour yields 39,600 hands. At 8-10bb/100 this month I could be on my way to vegas in like a month.

OH! also its super hard to take notes 8 tabling, and saving Hand histories. We'll see how that goes. Also, I'm going to get some help with this poker ace hud problem. I think if i switch my pokertracker database to postreSQL it might help.

Keith convinced me to play some short handed 2/4 limit he with him today. It was fun, and I ran 49/38 and made some pretty insane plays. The last two days I just couldn't get much going. I'd win one big pot, then not win a hand for an hour. Then suck out huge, but get sucked out on huge right after. In other news, my sleeping schedule has completely changed. I no longer wake up tired. Ever since graduation, I've been sleeping between 8 and 9 hours a night and waking up refreshed. This may seem normal, but to me it isn't. If I went to sleep at 1, and had a class at 2pm the next day, I would struggle to get out of bed by 1pm. It's crazy how stress can affect my sleeping pattern. I've woken up before 11:30AM every morning for the last 9 days. I haven't done this since freshman year of high school, where I had no choice.

I want to talk about variance and baseball, but I'll save that for tomorrow.

I bought a cd off of itunes today. Will Stratton came out with his first cd this month. It's along the lines of Sufjan Stevens' acoustic stuff, so I'm listening to it right now. It's very good so far.

I wanted to talk a little about playing poker when no one realizes it. I have two roomates, and they often ask for favors while I'm playing poker. My desk is in the living room facing three large windows in the front of my apartment. I placed it there so I wasn't stuck in my room for hours and hours at a time. Also, I was the one to find the apartment after MANY days and weeks of searching, so I decided to put my desk wherever I wanted.

So about asking favors, I really don't mind, but I often explain to them that I cannot stop what I'm doing. "Hey can you help me move this?" yeah sure, "ok 1 second.... ok lets move it" sorry dude can't for a sec, I have AQs, 44, J8s on the button and I flopped a junk 2 pair. These windows of opportunity to do anything are very small.

I also don't flip out anymore at the computer when I'm losing. So to the average person, it just looks like I'm uninvolved with anything when I play. The same goes for phone calls. I often talk on the phone and tell someone I'm playing cards. I don't mind talking for a bit on the phone, but if I need to make a decision, it's hard to just cut someone off in the middle of a sentence. "HOLD ON" and I put down the phone. This can be very very rude, but if I chose to pick up the phone, I'm going to have to do that sometimes.

Going to the bathroom while playing 350+ hands an hour can be a nightmare also. At least twice a day, I sprint back and forth to my computer. All it takes is one missed hand to alter your entire session. I didn't work on being an extremely patient, disciplined poker player, to miss my one opportunity in 1,000 hands to win a monster pot.

I used to hang up on people practically when I lost a big pot on the phone. Now I handle it much better.

I think it's important for me to realize that what I am doing really is work. I'm going to be doing this as a career, and I'd better start treating it like a career. Although I think it's my responsibility to make the people around me realize that this game I'm playing on my computer is actually important.

I'm not sure if I've come off as angry in this post. It certainly wasn't my intention, but I refuse to read over my posts before posting to check as see.

Things are ok right now. Things are even good. I think my family is really starting to see some very good results from my poker playing. They are supportive even without really knowing exactly what I'm doing. It will be an adjustment when I get home, but I think if I establish that when I'm playing poker I really can't do anything else, things will be fine.

As far as poker, today was rough all around. Many many coolers/set ups/beats, but I am extremely pleased with my results. I' m most proud of keeping my cool.

So for the last 8 days I have to play cards in boston, I was shooting for about 30 hours of play. That should yield about 10k hands. May will be the last month I speak in terms of hours, as I will then switch to hands played. I will still record how many hours I play, but I'm probably going to start another mini goal for 40k hands in June.

I wasn't planning on playing yesterday but I put in about 900 hands with good results. I hope I can roll through this week, and take $18,000 home with me. For those of you that don't know, my original bankroll goal for when I graduated college was 10k. This quickly jumped to 20k and now 30k.

So I graduated College. That's pretty cool... MOVING ON!

I didn't play at all while I was home and I figured that's ok. I'm back in boston and have about 8 days to play before I move the rest of my stuff home for good. I should actually be able to play enough while I'm here to get to 60 hours for the month of May. That would be good. Then my goals change for summer. Instead of shooting for hours played, I'm going to shoot for 40,000 hands in June and July. I should be able to do this in about 90 hours. And at 7.5-10bb/100 you can do the math.

O by the way I just ordered a sweet ass 30" dell monitor. 3007wfp-hc. Holler! I'll start running 2 more tables once I get that set up at home. That equals 110 more hands per hour; sweet.

Short Break

So I made a couple silly folds yesterday, which I guess is better than silly calls. I try to separate myself from the "I gotta go broke on this hand" mentality. I'm still trying to find a balance between just going with big hands on the flop, and making world class laydowns. No limit is about folding, and while in the last week I've made maybe 3 too many folds, I don't think I'm folding too much. Let's put it this way, those 3 folds cost me $255. If I called every time I was in those sticky spots this week, and just submitted to the fact that I "HAD" to go all in with my overpair, it would have cost me about $1200. I will be making some adjustments of course, but I certainly do not just want to blindly shove every flop with TPTK.

My family is about to arrive in boston. Tomorrow is my graduation, and I'll be back in NY tomorrow night. The plan is to get back to playing a little at home on monday, and then when I get back to boston in a week, I'll just pump out 1,500-2,000 hands a day.

End College/End Week 8

So that's it. College was pretty much a breeze anyway I guess. Still feels good as hell to be done. Although I don't have any class, it is still going to be hard for me to play much the rest of the month. This weekend i'll be with the family and mother's day. I actually go home to NY on the 12th, the day of graduation. I'll be home for maybe 6 days and then I have to come back to Boston to get the rest of my stuff/play a gig on the 26th. So I think the plan will have to be, chill at home, and when I get back up here, just try and bang out 2k hands a day. We will see.

So I'm focusing more on how many hands I play rather than hours. For May I'm looking for 5k hands a week, and 21k hands a month. But once I'm settled at home in June, I'm going to really kick it up. 42k hands a month. Believe it or not, I can achieve that in about 120 hours. I can't wait to start seeing some serious results this summer.

Yesterday's session was crazy! I must have been all in 11 times in 1000+ hands. I started the session with 3 brutal beats, and then went on a complete tear. I must have been showing +$1000 at the tables minus the initial downswing. Then more swings followed with a late run for a decent session. I had a lot of hands saved, but I'm going to try and save the KK vs QQ all in on turn slash 2 outer bad beat hand histories for another day.

More importantly, the New York Yankees signed Roger Clemens. I am extremely happy with this as I enjoy watching 130+ games a year. I'm also an avid fantasy baseball player. As soon as Pavano went down (again) and talks of surgery were in the air, I knew it was only a matter of time.

Soooo, I'm in the green for May now.

Baseball Bifecta

So I figured out I can run 3 bodog tables while watching my MLB TV games. I need ram badly, and I just assumed this wouldn't work, but it does. Although i'd like to keep very concentrated, I think poker and baseball is better than poker and aim and web browsing etc. I have an enormous 21" crt monitor that is about twice as deep as the actual viewing screen. I want to pick up one of those baller 30" flat screen bad boys. Maybe i'll get one when I move back to NY.

I did some calculations regarding the amount of hands I play, bb/100, and my expectation, and it turns out on further on pace than I thought. As long as I can keep up 30 hours a week at home (shouldn't be a problem) I should actually be good to go closer to August than September. I don't like to get to in depth with making these specific expectation goals because poker is so volatile, and I find if I fall off pace I get very frustrated. However, after a large sample size, I think this is a safe bet. (330hands/hr 7.5bb/100 etc...) You can figure it out.

April In Review

Despite not reaching my goal of 75 hours played this month, I'm not disappointed with my results. I ended up playing 57 hours which is the exact total from the month of March. During these 57 hours though, I certainly played more hands. Adding tables allowed me to play about 30%more hands total from last month. I made $2,757 this month taking a $48.37/hourly rate. My record this month was not as good as last, and I certainly didn't run as well. I went 15-6-2-7 (wins losses ties and days not played.) My overall win percentage is 75%.

These are pretty good results considering I took a complete week off in the middle of the month. I've just switched to 9 handed now, and my results have been excellent at bodog. I'm curious to see how this next month will go.

That's right bitches, after about 6 1/2 weeks I'm past the 25% completion mark. I feel pretty good about this also. Although I'm about $1500 off of pace, I have nothing to complain about. My 75% win percentage and an hourly rate getting back into the +$50 mode, I have to feel good about my chances of completing this goal.

I graduate college in a couple weeks and I'm moving back to NY which might make it hard to play a ton for the month of May. I will be moving back and forth from Boston to NY bringing stuff home and saying goodbye to friends. I'm not very concerned about it though. I've got plenty of time to tackle the next $15k+.

The month ends tomorrow, and while I started out great as far as playing more hours, after a 1 week hiatus it looks as though I'll fall short. This is deceiving though. I actually have played more hands in less time than I did last month. Poker is about hands, NOT hours. We'll see what the calculations are tomorrow.

I've been playing extremely tight 9 handed, and really taking the post flop route to MUCH success. My numbers are almost embarrassingly tight at about 16.5/7.5 after 5,500 hands. ANYWAY, I decide to check the flop with the big draw, and go for a check raise. The button puts another suspicious min bet and I want to see where I'm at. He then reraises me. So here is my problem. I have a huge draw here, but based on the timing, and the info hes given me, I realize I have NO fold equity, or close to it. I'm not a big fan of the 12 out shove race here. If I felt there was any chance of him folding, re raising is a clear choice. Now the turn comes and I check fold. I know this is ultra passive, but the players on this site are so bad that I feel it's unnecessary to invest large amounts of money in race situations preflop or on the flop. HAD THIS BEEN FULL TILT, I would have been all in on the flop. Whats the best line here other than raising the flop again?

601+ Hands

So I took almost this entire week off and played a whopping 6 1/2 hours. I feel good though. I definitely needed the break, and even though I wasn't planning on taking a week off, I realize now how important it was. I've decided that i'm going to stick with 3 tables of bodog and maybe through in another 9handed full tilt table also. So my hand counts will be down, but my expectation on bodog has shown itself to be pretty astonishing over the last 5k hands. The play is undeniably easier too.

I played at least 601 hands today in 3 hours which isn't a bad hand per hour. (pokertracker missed about 20 hands) It was definitely cool pushing 425+ hands an hour but I think this will be much more beneficial for me. More relaxed, longer sessions, happier to play.

I've fallen off my pace quite considerably, but I'm not entirely worried. I had 2 break even weeks, and this week was incredibly short as far as hours worked. I was shooting for 1k a week average, and even after all that time off/cold weeks, I'm just $1800 off pace. April has been QUITE slow so far, but let's see if I can't put together a good run over the next several days and pull together a respectable month total.

No hands cause bodogs are harder to fetch, and none of them are that interesting to me, except the ones where I get it in on the turn a 9.5:1 favorite and lose. WAHH WAHHHHH

So the weather finally got better in Boston, and I certainly haven't been playing a lot this week. I only have a few weeks lefts with my college friends, and I think it's ok to spend this time with them. On top of that I actually have a few projects, and proficiencies to prepare for school. I'm really trying to feel more comfortable taking my time with this goal. I definitely want to me motivated, and dedicated to playing a lot, but right now I need to make sure I enjoy myself before college is over. I keep telling people that August is my goal date to move, and it still is, however I think September could be just as good. I really don't want to put as much pressure on myself as I have been, and i think my results will improve. I never play my A game when I'm anxious.

I've played a few short sessions here and there with average results. I'm running ice cold on full tilt, but I've never made as many hands as I've made on Bodog. I'll post my results later.

So today I crushed on Bodog and got in terrible situations on Full Tilt. I really feel like I played very well, but boy were there some really tough spots. I ended up a small winner, and I was thinking about dropping FT completely, but I can't play more than 3 tables on bodog, and I still have a 6bb/100 over the last 20k hands on FT.

I got PAhud but it doesn't work. I finally dled the new beta but it's unstable. It worked for like a second and then it fucked up and that was that. I really think PA hud is absolutely necessary on that site. Those fuckers are crazy. Plus, I run at least 400% better on bodog. So reading over those last posts was pretty comical. They were very therapeutic to write, and I've decided not to take them down. I played a 600 hand session last night and it went well. I also played a couple of tables of $25 max on bodog with Jake while watching the the Yankee game. That shit went on for 13 innings. It was super fun to play those limits, and I forgot how fun poker is when you can just sit and dominate everyone at the table. I think I had my stack to about 5+ buy ins when I sat out.

I'm really happy with my 6 table layout right now and I'm going to stick to it. I think bodog will add a lot to my hourly, as well as the rakeback I will get, which will be a nice bonus. I picked up a transfer for $319 yesterday for full tilt rakeback which was cool, but I think I can expect $600+ a month from the site now that I'm playing more and I don't have any bonuses clearing (they take away from your MGR.)

O, I also went back to the store to get another pint of "cinnamon bun" ice cream, by ben and jerry's. They didn't have any more so got creme brule'. It was good, but sweet as hell and I couldn't eat as much as I would like. Everyone try the cinnamon bun.

Nobody sits and makes tougher folds than me at this limit. No one. I sit, I get sucked out on over and over again. I grind back, and start it all over again. Over and over and over again. The same story. I'm sick and tired of laying down overpairs. I'm sick of the utg min raising calling my raise and check raising all in for over a buy in on a 7hi flop and I fold JJ. I get 3 bet over and over and over again from the blinds, and I have to fold fucking AJ preflop at a penny limit poker game. It's nearly impossible to raise my pre flop raise % because of all the 3 betting. I'm sick of reading other blogs of a huge list of monster hands and monster payoffs. So a couple of my friends have confronted me about my river call in this hand http://www.pokerhand.org/?991695 I really don't think the river is an issue. My raise on the flop was designed to get a larger pair to come over the top and let me know I'm no good. I think it actually just worried him about me flopping trips, but either way he isn't going to re raise me. On the turn he slow plays, not considering all the cards that can kill the action. Or maybe he thinks I have quads or something. ANYWAY, on the river I'm getting 4:1. And I ran some hand ranges on pokerstove. I decided that A6, JJ-77 was an extremely fair range. Don't get all fed up with A6 though. A6 is representing EVERY SINGLE hand I can POSSIBLY beat. So that takes into account all bluffs and non bluffs I can beat. With this range I have 34% equity! Clear call. Even if we include AA-77 I'm still 24% equity. And still a +ev call on the river. So I hope that clears up the river.

I actually ended up 6 tabling full ring tables today for a few hours. I ran 3 on bodog (max amount of tables) and they were way way easier than the 3 full tilt tables I ran. But then I checked out Fruity Pros blog, who is another $200 6max Full tilt player, and he just had an enormous list of him getting hands and destroying noobs. I realized that I shouldn't give up on the 6max just yet. I haven't been getting paid off for two weeks, and I was super confident I could have the same results if things just started to go my way a little more.

So I made about $400 on bodog full ring and lost $350 on full tilt showing down the nut flush or better and losing my only two showdowns. But I put in a 400 hand 6max session on fulltilt and actually got paid off in several hands! Its crazy how much getting paid off counterfeits all the bad beats. Anyway, here are some low lights.

So I ended up with another lackluster week. Very disappointing for me, but I don't think I played badly at all. I also took a couple of days off this week, which clearly isn't going to have me making much money anyway. I'm obviously not having the level of success on Full Tilt that I was last month, but I'm going to give it another few days before checking out the bodog $200 full ring. I have money on there so it's no big deal. We'll see.

Almost a day off

So yesterday I only played an hour of break even cash games and decided to try and refresh myself with a full day off. Well, after looking at some other people's blogs tonight I decided that they weren't the only ones that could get top set all in against 7 hi and win hundreds of dollars. So I played a short 90 minute session with some success. I called it quits when it was time to meet a friend at the bar.

O YEAH! So my friend Jake asked about a $7 dollar tourney on bodog and I decided to do it with him. Well, he was out in the first hour and I really had a hard time taking it seriously. I actually went to go pick up food right in the middle of it. The sick part was that when I got back I saw two red aces folded, what timing right? Anyway, there were 437 entrants and out of nowhere I found myself chip leader. I ended up all in with insane blinds with AQ vs 22 and I was down to 9k. Then I doubled a few times and it was all in or fold time. Needless to say, I ended up shoving against AA two hands in a row and came in 11th! UGH!!!!!! The worst part was the horrible prize I received. O well, at least it's good to know that I can pretty much destroy low limit MTT's with hardly any effort. 11/437 ain't to shabby anyway. Doing the Impossible / End Week 3

Today was a total wreck to start. After 3 hours ad 950 hands I had taken some of the worse beats I've taken in a while. I managed to minimize my losses though after two or 3 $400-$500 pots got shipped the other way. I was super frustrated and figured I'd call it a day, but in my last hour I went on a total tear. I pulled ahead and booked a win, and I honestly can't tell you how.

I may or may not take today off. The last four have been quite frustrating, and my threshold for bad beats has taken a hit. I still work on keeping my cool, and although I feel I'm better at it than I ever was, after several frustrating days, I can feel myself getting angry a lot easier.

Not getting better

Fulltilt sucked as usual today. I got way way above average starting hands and got no action. I grinded myself a decent win over the 3 hours, but I got overpair vs baby set and KK vs TT and Axs and lost that. So, another even session.

The good news is that I think I'm starting to adjust a little better preflop. I'm making some more crucial 3 bets that are allowing me to take the pot down both preflop, and on the flop more easily. Hopefully things pick up in the next couple days, I'm starting to get really frustrated with my results.

So today I did what I said I wouldn't. and accidentally reraised to $150 on the river while chatting in the chat box. Super pissed, but I'm getting over it. Didn't run so well today either, but worked it back to a reasonable loss. I was stuck 3 buy ins at my worst. And boy the coolers just rack up on Full Tilt.

One thing I wanted to share was a game I played back when I lived in my college dorm. I was messing around at a $50 max Pot limit omaha table and flopped the nuts. On the river, the flush card hit and my opponent moved all in. I was so pissed that I slammed my desk with my hand. The thing was that I had just bought the new wireless Mac mouse (which broke eventually due to head up poker online) which was super sensitive. It automatically clicked call and I won the pot. My opponent was bluffing. I got a round of "nice call" from everyone at the table. I took the pot, sat out and left. So I guess it took over a year for the misclick to get even. O well.

One other thing; note that A-rod will win the MVP this year. Holler at that MONSTER shot he hit today. :)

Avoiding a bad start

So I was starting to think I'd start every month off with a bad session, but I stuck it out for a break even day which is great cause I was -$500 in the first hour. Fulltilt played like usual, get your kings in bad against a baby set on a dry board. Get your baby set in against aces and win a bit pot. Get your nut straight in vs the 2nd nut straight. Get your KT in vs AT on TTx in a limped pot. I played at my friends house so I haven't imported my hand histories yet. There really isn't much interesting to see I don't think, minus one baller laydown on the flop by me. I'll post it later.

One thing I've been having trouble with lately is the chat box on full tilt. I've noticed a lot of the same faces from solid players and I've tried chatting with them. I think it would help to develop some sort of relationship with the pro's at my limit. Anyway, when you hit enter in the chat box, and it becomes your action, you end up putting in a min raise. 3 times this week I min raised while trying to chat, and one time I min reraised preflop. A real bummer but luckily I didn't lose too much because of it. I actually ended up luckboxing on the hand I 3 bet by accident and hit a big flop. I'm going to have to pay more attention so this doesn't happen again though.

March in Review

First thing, I unlocked my comments which I didn't realize was locked. Now you can leave a comment if you aren't a member of blogspot. Moving on...

Despite an inauspicious start to the month, March has really showed the beginning of consistent success for me in poker. From March 2nd to today I have made $4,608. This in exactly 53 hours of playing time. That is an astonishing $86.94/hourly rate. Unfortunately, March 1st cannot be forgotten or left out, and that -$1,447 day must be included. Even still, $3,161 Net is something I'm very pleased with. That in 57 hours of playing time works out to a healthy $55.46/hourly rate. I'm extremely pleased with this result.

My record for the month is 18-4-1-8. Wins-losses-ties-days not played. I have an excel sheet that I keep all my stats on from the last 3 or 4 months that I may or may upload later. For next month I will really try my best to get in 75 hours of playing time. I need to start playing more, and my results should really show for it.

Today went well, I was in my fair of shit ass situations and I think I fared quite well. I threw together over 1k hands today and here's what came up.

Boy did I do some kicking and screaming today. I started off the day real good with a flopped 3rd nut flush vs 2nd nut flush and saved half my stack. Played a little on bodog but quit after I realized my handgrabber needed to be re registered. I played for 5 hours today and the swings were really unbearable. I havn't gotten this frustrated in a few weeks. Today's swings went as follows. $-300/$+400/$+800/$+200 I played late night and got the weekend crowd and boy were they bad. But 2 bad situations and some serious suckouts left me with my head spinning. Sometimes the game is just way too sick.

4th loss in march

Well, I took my 4th loss in march, and I guess it's really not that bad. This was my 1st considerable loss all month besides for the -7.5 buy in atrocity on the 1st of the month. I looked over my pokertracker and really only found a couple marginal plays. It felt good to go over my session with Keith and realize that I didn't donk off my whole session. I think I'll make two goals for the rest of the week. One, to play as good as I did yesterday every day this week. Two, to try and get to +$200 by the end of the week. Pretty modest goal, but to be quite honest, the only think you can really control as a poker player is how you play. The results just kind of work themselves out. Still, I'd like to pull together another +$700 before the end of the week and get me in the green for this week.

Then I made a read for no heart which was right, but he had a straight. Heh, woops. Flop raise is more standard here, and I'm gunna cut back just a little bit on the value calls on the flop. I think that will help.

And if he does bet the turn, now my raise is more expensive. Agree?

Lots of swings today, but a fine result. Again it felt like monster vs. monster in every pot on full tilt, but I'm working on getting the action when I want it. I'm going to see about loosening my 3 betting requirements with trash, I'll have to see how everyone reacts though. Although there is far less fold equity at these limits, I find that FT plays super tight aggro preflop. If I can sneak in some more 3 and 4 betting before the flop, I might be able to instigate some action with my premiums.

A friend approached me that I don't see very often about my blog today. It occurred to me that the majority of people that read blogs, are people that the blog writer doesn't know read it. Of course there is no way to track who reads your blog, but I encourage anyone to leave a comment, even non poker related if they'd like. I've been getting some great feedback so far and it is very encouraging. This blog is a place very much dedicated to my poker experiences right now, but in actuality this is pretty much the basis for what my life is going to be about for some time to come. I was very much willing to fold to the river bet if it was substantial, but I just wasn't ready to fold on the turn. His bet gave me better than 3:1 on the end, so I figured to have a better 8 with my crap kicker 1 in 4 times. Plus the chance of him bluffing and not making trips. And to think, if he just valued his hand better on the river, he'd have won.

My Friend Andrew

Yesterday my friend made a nice little score in a MTT. We've been talking poker a lot lately, so pretty late last night I decided to sit in 3 of his $25 max tables. I won't reveal his last name on the internet cause that's pretty rude, but his name is Andrew. Now anyone who knows him, will know exactly who I'm talking about. There is one hand I wanted to talk about that we got involved with, and I felt like sharing it.

Andrew had position on every table, so he trys to get me off my hand with the three bet. This we know is impossible, I was playing at about 45%vpip 35% pfr. I do my standard pwnage on the flop and turn. I give much kudos to him for the triple barrel, but he soon figures out exactly how outmatched he is. Comfycouch with the gangsta call in the blinds. Ship city.

I made about 2 buy ins at the table, having a ton of fun the whole time. Poker tracker missed a couple hands so the net is a little off, but the rest of the numbers are pretty on.

I wasn't able to play cards for a couple days. That's OK though. Today I put in a good session and was surprised with my PT stats at the end. I really thought I was running close to 22% vpip, but apparently not. I guess playing multiple tables makes it very deceiving when it comes to how many hands you are actually playing. I'm not too worried about the snugness of my play as of recent. I think I'm adjusting very well to Full Tilt. ("If it ain't broke, don't fix it" cliche' omitted.) I also got poker grapher which is pretty cool. I'll be putting up some of those soon too.

HU HE

So I've been dabbling with a little head up NL recently, and it's been going well. For a while, head up limit holdem was my main game. I saw great results for a number of months, but when I hit variance for the first time, I lost it. Head up limit holdem is by far the most brutal and frustrating card game on earth (ok maybe razz is worse.)

I've basically been seeking out shortstacks at the .50-1 and 1-2nl limit. I feel like these players are pretty much free money. They play straight forward, and when they get short, they try and pick a spot. I feel that this is one of the stronger points of my game; getting it in good I mean (5:2 favorite.) I've yet to lose a match against the shortstacks, and I've also had a couple full stack triumphs at both limits I attempted. My main strategy in these low limit head ups, is to let these guys run into a wall. In almost all of my matches, my opponent has won maybe up to 85% of the hands. They take small pot after small pot, but then bingo bango bongo. They mess up big time. Obviously this wouldn't work at higher limits, but who cares? I will continue to seek out these profitable match ups while by no means switching my main game. I'm not nearly ready enough for the variance involved in HU HE, especially NL.

I got average cards at best today, and play on FT was not nearly soft enough for a Friday night. I still managed to take home a little money for my efforts, thanks to some head ups.

To make matters worse, I went for a check call on the end. For some reason I thought he was HUGE. Man I missed value on the end to make matters worse. Hands like this happen though, and I absolutely took a break after this hand. At least I won.

OK, before you look at my daily totals, I want to make it clear that I'm not at all satisfied with how today went. I know I shouldn't complain when I win, but hear me out ok?

Full Tilt played ridiculously hard today. Maybe i was just in bad situations over and over again, but I really felt the 30% preflop bullshit that's been going on. I mean, this isn't 10/20 NL. There were tables with 25% pf and that's just ludicrous.

I was in tough spot after tough spot, and players were reading me for weakness. That's probably because I really didn't connect with many flops. Also, it seemed like the times I made the optimal play, I ended up taking a cooler. I know I know, don't be results based. But to tell you the truth, my opponents were good today. Well...

The spectrum of players on FT range from SUPER BAD to Internet low stakes pro. The problem is that 95% of these players are at the complete one side of this spectrum. So half the the players are making donk moves, and half are making the same moves practically under different circumstances, making them profitable plays. It was hard to figure out who was who.

This guy 3 bet pretty damn quick and I put him on AK AT WORST. This seems to be the optimal way to play this hand on full tilt. As you saw before in the other hand I posted with AA. Smooth calling can make decisions hard. But you know what? This guy WILL fold JJ to my 4 bet preflop. Full Tilt just works that way. And if that schmuck doesn't wake up with a miracle hand on the flop, I get to stack MR. JJ. I wanted this pot badly. I was extremely pleased with my grasp of the situation during the hand. I was obviously bummed as hell with the result.

Internet Connection Tilt / End Week 1

So basically, my house in NY is in the middle of a black hole. All wireless devices are completely disabled inside of my house. So after being knocked off my wireless router about 5 times, I gave up. I played for about 23 minutes or so, and it's a shame, cause I was ready to put in a good session. However, after a few of those disconnects, I get really frustrated. I ended up about -$103 which is secretly nothing at $200 max, especially because I played for 23 minutes. I even lost a hand to a short stack shove with Q2s vs 77 on K42. It's good that kids are still doing this online. I really thought everyone online that was left was a LAG pro.

Anyway, I'm in NY till Sunday. And my friend reminded me that Barnes and Noble has free wireless. So I'll look to take advantage of that. I bet I'll even be more focused there. Playing in public places also helps me control my temper. Plus, I can show off my all-in victory dance! Thanks Joe! (see joe the pro)

Jail and The Taj

So of course I ran super bad today on the road. I get pulled over going 64 in a 55 (wtf) on my way to Atlantic City. Obviously my friend whose car I'm driving is polishing off his blunt, and we totally get busted for it. Nothing too terrible, just the run of the mill shake down. The worst is that I had to sit on the rail of the AC expressway without my jacket on. I was freezing. Kind of a bummer that we got pulled over for being 2 dudes in one of those Honda Elements.

So after my buddy got arrested for pot possession, and I got off with a lame speeding ticket, I had to follow the cops back to the station. Do you know how hard it is to go 100 MPH in a Honda Element? I got a ticket for going 64 in a 55, but the cops wanted me to follow them back to the station going 100 friggin miles an hour. So I'm hauling ass, and I can't find the ez pass, so I just blow through the tolls (obv.) I just don't want to lose the cop car and not be able to find my friend when he's done being "processed." So 45 minutes later, we are back on track with a summons and a traffic ticket, and we arrive at the Taj 90 minutes behind.

My session was great. I pretty much pwned the entire table for 4 hours. I really haven't felt that in control of a poker game since I was running a 2 table tournament in my dorm rooms a couple years ago. I played well, and I felt comfortable interacting with everyone at the table. Heck, I even got two email addresses from two of the kids I felt were competent at the table. One said he owned some sort of online poker tournament site, but you never know. It felt good that I not only played well and turned a profit, but I was able to network (not easy for jamie to do.)

I'll fix the colors tomorrow. My mac doesn't let me.

So, once again I failed in playing enough cards yesterday. I put in just one hour for +$123 or so (my friends and I fucked around In micro tourneys again.) There is one hand that I played that looks horrible. And normally I'd feel terrible playing the hand this way but this was OPP DEP.

http://www.pokerhand.org/?922015 My OPP is extremely loose, and prone to bluff. I chose to smooth call preflop which is apparently the NEW reraise in online poker (more on that another time.) I take position and flop a miracle. Normally I would not have any problem building a pot as I would have 3 bet preflop, but now I have to go a completely different route. The flop goes check check and I know he will bet the turn. On the turn my opponent goes ahead and insta bets. Now I normally hate a min raise, but I know he is capable of moving in with ANY draw and ANY pair in this spot. I want him to 3 bet. He thinks and calls, and I can put him on precisely 1 pair and no heart. That stinks because if he wasn't willing to bluff the turn, which he had been for the last 20 minutes, he wasn't going to bet the river. The board paired giving me some hope of the maniac making a move. I bet really small, hoping he will take the bet ad go all in. He uses his whole time bar and folds. I really feel like I played the best line against this particular opponent. I also feel like he almost pulled the trigger twice. I like how I am starting to be able to choose opponent specific lines now at any given point. This is good.

I'm on my way to Atlantic City for the day, so although I'll certainly play around 6-8 hours, I should only get in about 300 hands. Live poker is so damn slow. Also, if I don't make at least $500, casino poker rooms are rigged too.

HU SnG's

So yesterday I didn't play any legitamate poker, however I ran some 1$-$5 SnG's in all of it's variety at my friends house for fun. I guess not having my PC and no computer desk at home makes it harder for me to put in the hands I should be, even though I have virtually nothing else to do but hang out with friends.

I went 3-1 in the HU SnG's (1-0 PL OH, 2-1 NL HE.) I got my money in precisely 4 times; clearly. Then I finished OOTM in two 94 man sng's that payed top 18, SO RIGGED. The play in these tournaments reminds me that of the play on a scratch off ticket. People throw their money away and turn up the cards; frantically searching for a pair of some sort to get their money back and try again. If I was starting to build my roll from scratch all over, I'd certainly consider multitabling these 90 man sng's in the $5 and $10 fashion. With a payout for 20% of entrants, it's almost a lock.

I'm going to try an put in 500 hands now.
